After months of speculation and frustration among fans, the makers of Vijay’s Jana Nayagan have finally opened up about the reasons behind the film’s long delay. Producer Venkat K Narayana recently spoke about the controversy surrounding the movie’s certification process and revealed that objections raised from within the examining committee itself became one of the key reasons behind the hold-up.
Producer Reveals What Happened Behind the Scenes
Speaking to NDTV, Venkat K Narayana explained that the certification issue became far more complicated than the team initially expected. According to the producer, a complaint was reportedly filed by a member connected to the examination process, which triggered further scrutiny and eventually delayed the release.
The film had originally been scheduled for a January 2026 release, but repeated complications involving the certification process forced the makers to postpone it multiple times.
Political Attention Around The Film Increased Pressure
The controversy surrounding Jana Nayagan gained even more attention because the project is widely considered Vijay’s final major film before his full-time political transition. Over the past year, the actor’s growing political presence has made every development around the movie a heavily discussed topic in Tamil Nadu.
Venkat K Narayana even joked that perhaps destiny wanted the film to release only after Vijay officially became Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The producer described the actor as a true “Jana Nayagan,” meaning “people’s leader,” while praising his discipline and commitment.
Certification Issues Led To Legal Battle
The delay eventually turned into a major legal and industry issue. Reports suggested that while an initial committee had reportedly recommended certification, additional objections later pushed the film into a revising process, creating uncertainty around its release timeline.
The producers approached the Madras High Court after claiming that the delay was causing heavy financial losses. The legal battle soon became one of the most talked-about film controversies in Tamil cinema this year.
Leak Controversy Made Matters Worse
As if the certification delays were not enough, the film suffered another major setback when portions of Jana Nayagan leaked online earlier this year. Clips from the movie quickly spread across social media, forcing the production house to seek legal action against piracy accounts.
The leak reportedly caused massive concern within the Tamil film industry, with several actors and filmmakers publicly supporting Vijay and condemning the piracy incident.
Fans Now Waiting For Final Release Date
Despite all the controversies, the makers now appear confident that the film is finally nearing release. Venkat K Narayana recently confirmed that the final certification process is close to completion and suggested that audiences may get to watch the movie within the next two weeks.
For Vijay fans, the update comes as a major relief after months of uncertainty surrounding one of the most anticipated Tamil films in recent years.
