Director Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious cinematic adaptation of the Ramayana has been amongst constant discussion for different reasons. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash in lead roles, the project has seen multiple casting rumours over the last few months. While fans have been eagerly waiting for every update, recent reports about the supporting cast have faced direct denials from the actors involved.
After a clarification from Vikrant Massey, Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi has now come forward to address reports linking him to the project. For some time, speculation suggested that he had been roped in to play the character of Vibhishana. However, the actor has officially cleared the air. As reported by Bollywood Hungama, Vijay Sethupathi denied his involvement in the film. When asked about his participation, he said, “No, sir. I am not a part of this project. No clue where this is coming from.”
This clarification comes shortly after Vikrant Massey also dismissed rumours of his association with the film. Reports had suggested that Raghav Juyal had replaced Vikrant for the role of Meghanad. Responding to these claims, he took to social media to state that he was never part of the movie to begin with. He wrote, “Ok. To put the rumours to rest. I never was a part of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan. The many media portals reporting about my supposed ‘replacement’ should’ve done the requisite background check. Disappointing. Nonetheless, wishing everyone a part of the movie all the very best. Love.”
While Vijay Sethupathi and Vikrant Massey have denied their involvement, the film still boasts a massive ensemble. Sunny Deol is set to play Hanuman, with Ravie Dubey as Laxman and Arun Govil as Dashrath. The cast also includes Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Indira Krishnan as Kausalya, and Kunal Kapoor as Indra. Names like Rakul Preet Singh, Kajal Aggarwal, and Mohit Raina have also been mentioned in reports, though official confirmation is awaited.
Ramayana is planned as a two-part project. The first part is set for a Diwali release this year. While unconfirmed, reports suggest a teaser might be released on March 27, coinciding with Ram Navami. The second part is expected to hit screens during Diwali 2027.
