Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance has become a major mystery for the investigators and the FBI in Arizona. It has been three months since she disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on January 31, 2026. Despite an intense investigation, there are no suspects, arrests, or breakthroughs in the case. Still, the forensic evidence and increasing public attention have kept the search for the 84-year-old in headlines. Meanwhile, a former FBI official has shared a new theory that could shift the investigation’s focus.
Was Nancy Guthrie abducted by someone she knew?
Former FBI assistant director, John Miller recently sat down for a conversation on The Fairfax Files hosted by Michael Hershman. During the conversation, he shared that he believes Nancy Guthrie has been taken away by someone familiar with her and her home. According to him, the suspect is likely a local who knew Nancy’s lifestyle, routine, and vulnerabilities. He suggested that the abductor might have carefully planned the crime after taking a note of Nancy’s daily life. John explained that such cases often involve someone with a direct or indirect connection to the victim. In his words:
“I think the answer is, and I think that the Guthrie family believes this too, the answer is right there. The answer is in Tucson. This was probably something hatched locally by someone who thought, ‘Here’s an individual who is relatively defenseless, lives alone, is vulnerable, unable to put up a lot of resistance.'”
