Lollapalooza’s third edition kicked off with a stellar lineup of artistes at Mumbai’s Mahalakshmi Race Course. Shawn Mendes, who performed in India for the first time, delivered a standout moment on Day 1. The Canadian singer did more than wow audiences with his singing. He also donned Virat Kohli’s cricket jersey during his set.
During his Lollapalooza performance Shawn Mendes sent the crowd into a frenzy by revealing Virat Kohli’s name and jersey number on his t-shirt. He also interacted with the crowd referring to India’s match with New Zealand in the ICC Tournament in Dubai. “India, I know you have a big, important cricket game tomorrow. Good luck. I hope everything goes well for you,” he said.

The gesture instantly went viral, with netizens appreciating Mendes’ respect for the Indian cricket fandom. Fans flooded Twitter and Instagram with clips of the moment. Many even called for Kohli to respond to the onstage moment.
Shawn Mendes explored Mumbai
Ahead of his Lollapalooza performance, 26-year-old Shawn Mendes spent three days exploring Mumbai. Fans were taken by surprise when they spotted him casually walking in Colaba Causeway’s street market. He was dressed in a simple vest and shorts as he stopped at a local chappal shop. Netizens were thrilled with the unexpected sighting. He also enthralled fans with an impromptu performance of his hit song Senorita at a local music academy.
Reflecting on his experience, Mendes shared, “These past three days have been some of the most magical of my life. It has been truly special.” He also impressed fans with his Hindi saying, “Dher sara pyaar” and “Dhanyawad,” amidst massive cheers at the music festival.
Lollapalooza’s line-up this year includes a stacked list of artistes – Glass Animals, Zedd, Green Day, former One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson, Nothing But Thieves, Hanumankind and others.
