Actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran is gearing up for the release of his highly-anticipated film L2: Empuraan. The sequel to Lucifer featuring Mohanlal in the lead role, releases in a matter of days. At the trailer launch event held in Mumbai today, Prithviraj opened up about casting Aamir Khan’s sister, Nikhat Khan Hegde, in the film.
Nikhat Khan, who is known for her roles in Pathaan and Mission Mangal, plays a pivotal role in L2: Empuraan. While talking to the press, Prithviraj revealed that he cast Nikhat in the film before he knew she was Aamir Khan’s sister. He said, “When I saw her audition, I really liked her. I told my casting director, ‘I want her for the role.’ It was only later that he told me she was Aamir sir’s sister. I was surprised. But I immediately called Aamir sir and told him, ‘She’s a lot better than good!’”
Nikhat Khan Hegde’s role in L2: Empuraan
Earlier, Prithviraj had introduced Nikhat’s character from L2 in a post. He wrote, “Character No: 14 Presenting Nikhat Khan Hegde as Subhadra Ben in #L2E. The rise of #Empuraan continues! #L2E Releasing on 27th March 2025.”
Opening up about her character in the video, Nikhat shared, “Subhadra Ben is a royal lady who is the owner of this huge haveli and she is regal, but still, has a lot of humanity in her. She supports and helps out a group of people who are in trouble. She has a lot of love, lot of resilience, but there’s also betrayal. And through Subhadra Ben I got to explore different layers of emotion. And I also feel honoured that I give a very important message in this film.”
About L2: Empuraan
L2: Empuraan is the second instalment of a trilogy, with Mohanlal reprising his role as Stephen Nedumpally aka Khureshi Ab’raam. The film’s star-studded ensemble cast also includes Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Abhimanyu Singh, Eriq Ebouaney, Jerome Flynn, and Suraj Venjaramoodu.
