Selvaraghavan’s latest outing, Manithan Deivamagalam, is set to make its digital debut following its theatrical release earlier this month. Directed by Dennis Manjunath, the film will begin streaming on SunNXT from May 1.
A dark story finds its next audience online
The film, which hit theatres on April 10, draws from real-life incidents involving a financier who allegedly exploits women unable to repay their debts. Positioned as a socially rooted drama, Manithan Deivamagalam places Selvaraghavan at the centre of a narrative shaped by violence, power and resistance.
Within the story, Selvaraghavan’s character, along with his wife played by Kushee Ravi, finds himself pulled into the fallout of these crimes. As tensions escalate within the village, his character takes it upon himself to confront the system enabling such abuse, setting the stage for a conflict-driven narrative. Despite the weight of its premise, the film received a mixed response from audiences and critics during its theatrical run.
Cast line-up and technical crew
Manithan Deivamagalam also marked the Tamil debut of Kushee Ravi, who is known for her work in Kannada cinema, including films like Dia, Case of Kondana and Full Meals. Her entry into Tamil films through a project anchored in a serious subject adds an interesting dimension to her filmography.
The supporting cast includes Kousalya, RS Sathish, YG Mahendra, Mime Gopi, Lirthika, Sudha, Jothikannan and Salem Deepak, among others, contributing to the film’s ensemble-driven storytelling.
On the production side, the film is backed by Vijaya Sathish and RS Sathish under the banner of Vyom Entertainments. The technical team includes cinematographer Ravi Varma K, music composer AK Prriyan and editor Deepak S.
Director Dennis Manjunath, who previously helmed Trip and Thookudurai, continues his association with grounded narratives that draw from rural backdrops and social conflict. With Manithan Deivamagalam, he attempts to explore the intersection of crime and morality within a community setting.
As the film transitions to OTT, its arrival could offer it a wider reach, particularly among viewers who may have missed its theatrical release. Whether the film finds stronger resonance in the streaming space remains to be seen, but its subject and performances are likely to invite renewed discussion.
