Way before the iconic wedding ceremony of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce at MSG, legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor had an extravagant party at MSG on October 17, 1957, hosted by her then-husband, film producer Mike Todd. The party was hosted to mark the first anniversary of his Oscar-winning film Around the World in 80 Days. The party was attended by 18,000 guests whom Todd described as ‘close friends’.
Are you surprised by the numbers? That’s not all; the event had 400 journalists along with 12 elephants to adorn the Garden. MSG was decked out with flags from every nation and a giant balloon replica from the film. The party had an enormous cake that reportedly stood 14 feet high, and Elizabeth Taylor had cut the giant cake.
