Director Karthik Subbaraj has revealed that his 10th feature film is titled Dorothy. Along with unveiling the title, the filmmaker confirmed that the film will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival before opening in theatres on September 25.
The announcement marks the first official glimpse into the long-awaited project, which stars Keerthy Suresh in the lead alongside Sananth and Rishikanth. While the makers have chosen to keep the plot under wraps, the film has already generated considerable buzz for bringing together Karthik and legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja.
Taking to social media to share the title announcement, Karthik also opened up about his personal connection to the film. “A story that is very very close to my heart and a film I wanted to make since many years is finally made. And that too with music by the maestro Ilaiyaraaja sir.”
His note suggests that Dorothy has been a passion project for the filmmaker, one that has remained in development for several years before finally reaching audiences.
A stellar team behind the film
Dorothy is produced by Karthik Subbaraj under his Dhammam Films banner, in association with Guneet Monga and Aachin Jain’s Sikhya Entertainment, while Jyoti Deshpande produces on behalf of Jio Studios.
The film’s technical crew features cinematographer S Thirunavukkarrasu, editor Ganesh Siva, production designer Kumar Gangappan and stunt choreographer Dinesh Subbarayan. Ilaiyaraaja composes the music, adding another prestigious collaboration to the project.
The Toronto International Film Festival premiere gives Dorothy an international launch ahead of its theatrical release, continuing a growing trend of Indian films finding a global platform before reaching audiences back home.

Dorothy also marks an important milestone in Karthik Subbaraj’s career as his 10th directorial. Since making his breakthrough with Pizza, the filmmaker has built a reputation for crafting distinctive genre films with titles such as Jigarthanda, Iraivi, Petta, Mahaan and Jigarthanda DoubleX. While details about Dorothy remain under wraps, the title reveal, festival premiere and the filmmaker’s own description of it as a long-cherished dream project have already made it one of the year’s most anticipated Tamil films.
