The makers of Aasha have officially announced that the Urvashi and Joju George starrer will release in theatres on September 4. The announcement came on Tuesday alongside a new poster featuring the film’s two lead actors, offering another glimpse into one of Malayalam cinema’s much-awaited upcoming releases.
Bringing Urvashi and Joju together in the lead for the first time, Aasha also features Aishwarya Lekshmi and Vijayaraghavan in key roles. While the makers have chosen to keep the story under wraps, the project has steadily built curiosity since its announcement, with the latest poster further fuelling anticipation ahead of its theatrical debut.
The film marks the directorial debut of Safar Sanal, who has also co-written the screenplay and dialogues with Joju George and actor Ramesh Girija. The trio share a creative history, with Safar and Ramesh having previously collaborated on the screenplay of Joju’s 2022 film Peace.
Aasha also boasts an accomplished technical crew. Madhu Neelakandan serves as the cinematographer, Govind Vasantha has composed the music, and Shan Mohammed has handled the editing. Produced by Vinayaka Ajith, the film is set to release in five languages, reflecting the makers’ ambition to reach audiences beyond the Malayalam market.
Busy slate for both lead actors
Both Urvashi and Joju George have an exciting line-up of projects in the coming months. Urvashi will next be seen in Visitor, a horror film co-starring Dhyan Sreenivasan and Navya Nair. She also headlines Paablo Paarty, a Malayalam-Tamil bilingual that features her daughter, Teja Lakshmi. The mother-daughter duo are also set to share screen space in the Kannada dark comedy Bully, directed by Anup Antony.
Joju, meanwhile, is juggling acting and filmmaking. The actor is currently working on his second directorial venture, Paripadi, which is expected to be a gritty action drama in the vein of his directorial debut, Pani. On the acting front, he is reuniting with veteran filmmaker Joshiy for Kanaandesham, scripted by actor-writer Anoop Menon. Before that, he will be seen in debutant Manu Antony’s Aja Sundari, produced by Aashiq Abu.
With a strong ensemble cast, an experienced technical team and a multilingual release strategy, Aasha is shaping up to be one of the notable Malayalam releases of the season. While details about its story remain under wraps, the combination of Urvashi, Joju George and the creative team behind the film has already generated considerable interest ahead of its September 4 release.
