A growing word-of-mouth success
DC follows Devadas, played by Lokesh Kanagaraj, an outsider who finds himself protecting an innocent family after they become victims of police brutality. As he attempts to keep them safe, Devadas and his associates also find themselves on the run from a ruthless police officer. The resulting journey combines action, survival and redemption, while gradually bringing together a group of unlikely characters.
Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy headline the female cast, while Aadukalam Naren, Thalaivasal Vijay and Kasthuri Raja appear in important roles. The film has also attracted attention for the performances and its action-driven treatment, with Anirudh’s music adding to the overall impact.
The response has translated into a strong box-office run. Within 10 days of its release, DC crossed the Rs 50 crore mark and is now eyeing the Rs 100 crore milestone. For Lokesh, the film’s performance carries additional significance as it marks his debut as an actor.

A new chapter for Arun Matheswaran
DC also represents the latest chapter in Arun Matheswaran’s distinctive filmography. The filmmaker made his directorial debut with Rocky in 2021 before following it with Saani Kaayidham in 2022. He subsequently directed Captain Miller, starring Dhanush, in 2024.
With DC, Arun has moved into another commercially accessible action space while retaining the gritty sensibility that has defined much of his work. The film is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, with Mukesh G handling the cinematography, GK Prasanna serving as editor and PC Stunts overseeing the action choreography.
For Mahesh Babu, meanwhile, the appreciation comes amid one of the most anticipated phases of his career. The actor is currently shooting for SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi, the ambitious project that also stars Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film marks Mahesh’s first collaboration with Rajamouli and is expected to be mounted on a massive scale.
As DC continues its theatrical run, Mahesh’s endorsement gives the film yet another boost, particularly among his massive fan base. More importantly, his description of the film as “original and outstanding” is another sign of the strong word-of-mouth response surrounding Arun Matheswaran’s latest directorial venture.
