‘Freefall’ True Story, John Barnett Warned Boeing About 787 Safety Issues, Did Anyone Listen To Him?

Netflix’s Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing, directed by Rory Kennedy, arrived on August 19, 2026. The 93-minute documentary is a follow-up to her 2022 film, Downfall: The Case Against Boeing. While the first film focused on the two Boeing 737 MAX 8 crashes in 2018 and 2019 that killed 346 people, Freefall examines events that occurred in the years after, including new whistleblower accounts and production concerns at Boeing facilities.

According to the film’s premise, it follows the death of Boeing whistleblower John Barnett and includes testimony from other current and former employees who reported safety issues to management.
