Mandaadi Trailer: Soori Returns to His Village for a High-stakes Boat Racing Battle

The trailer of the upcoming Tamil sports drama Mandaadi has been unveiled, offering a glimpse into a story driven by rivalry, redemption and the pursuit of sporting glory. Headlined by Soori, the film is set against the world of traditional sailing boat racing and brings together a cast featuring Mahima Nambiar, Sathyaraj and Suhas in pivotal roles. Mandaadi is scheduled to hit theatres on September 10.

The trailer introduces a village where sailing boat racing is more than just a sport. It is a matter of pride, legacy and competition between two rival clans. Soori plays a celebrated racer who has walked away from the sport and left his village behind. The reasons for his decision remain unclear, but his return sets the stage for a fresh confrontation.

Back in his hometown, his character finds himself drawn into the rivalry once again when he takes charge of a new sailing boat racing team. His objective is to lead them to victory against the team managed by Sattai Puli, played by Suhas. What begins as a sporting contest soon appears to have consequences that extend beyond the racing arena, affecting families and relationships on both sides.

A battle for pride on the water

The Mandaadi trailer puts its sporting backdrop front and centre, with glimpses of sailing boat races, intense rivalries and the physical demands of competing on the water. Soori’s character is presented as someone whose past achievements have made him a respected figure, but his return also threatens to upset an established order.

Suhas, meanwhile, appears to be playing a more antagonistic figure as Sattai Puli. His character’s rivalry with Soori’s former champion forms the central conflict, with the two sides preparing for a contest that carries considerably more weight than simply winning a race.

The trailer also hints at the emotional layers surrounding the competition. The rivalry between the clans appears to have been passed down through generations, making the sport inseparable from the characters’ personal identities. As Soori’s character begins training the new team, his involvement threatens to reopen old wounds and create fresh tensions within the community.

An ensemble cast and strong technical team

Mandaadi brings together an ensemble that includes Mahima Nambiar, veteran actor Sathyaraj, Mithun Jai Sankar, Ravindra Vijay, Bala Saravanan and Stun Siva, alongside Suhas. The film marks another attempt to explore a less frequently seen sporting world in Tamil cinema, with traditional sailing boat racing providing the backdrop for its drama.

GV Prakash Kumar has composed the music for the film, while the lyrics have been penned by Pa Vijay, Jayashree Mathimaran and Vaaheesan Rasaiya. The technical crew includes cinematographer SR Kathir and editor Pradeep E Ragav. DRK Kiran has handled production design.

The film’s action sequences are choreographed by Peter Hein, Dilip Subbarayan and Mahesh Mathew, suggesting that the drama will extend beyond the races themselves. Their involvement is particularly notable given the physical nature of the sport and the film’s emphasis on rivalry.

Mandaadi is produced by Elred Kumar under the RS Infortainment banner. Kumar has also contributed to the screenplay, writing the film alongside R Mohanavasanthan and Thiral Sankar.

With its combination of family drama, sporting rivalry and an unusual aquatic setting, Mandaadi is looking to offer Soori a different kind of leading role. The trailer sets up a battle where victory could mean more than a trophy, as the characters confront the legacies and conflicts that have shaped their lives. The film arrives in theatres on September 10.
