Box Office: Sunny Deol and Emraan Hashmis Face Off at The Movies Gets Intense

Rajkumar Santoshi’s Batwara 1947, starring Sunny Deol, is struggling at the domestic box office and continues to lag behind Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2. After a dull opening, the film has witnessed a disappointing run through the weekdays.

The film arrived with considerable expectations, backed by its ambitious scale, reportedly hefty budget and a star-studded cast. However, despite these factors, Batwara 1947 has failed to gain the desired momentum and is currently finding it difficult to establish a strong foothold at the box office.

The film’s fifth-day performance is rather modest. On Tuesday, it recorded an India nett collection of Rs 2.25 crore, marking a 12.5% rise from Monday’s Rs 2 crore. The increase can largely be attributed to mid-week ticket discounts, which often provide struggling films with a brief boost.

However, the improvement may have come too late. After five days, the film’s total India nett stands at Rs 30.75 crore, while its gross collection has reached Rs 36.54 crore. Considering the thousands of shows it received nationwide, the overall performance remains disappointing.

Awarapan 2 continues its strong box-office run on Day 5, earning Rs 9.75 crore nett in India from 11,060 shows. With this, the film’s India gross has reached Rs 120.33 crore, while its domestic nett collection stands at Rs 100.75 crore.

The film also maintained a solid pace overseas, collecting Rs 2 crore on Day 5. Its international gross now stands at Rs 23.80 crore, taking the film’s worldwide gross to Rs 144.13 crore so far.

Exhibitors are reshuffling shows based on demand, hurting Batwara 1947. Its shows dropped from 8,700 on Friday to 6,608 by Tuesday, while Awarapan 2 surged from 9,033 to 11,060 shows.

Regional occupancy highlights NCR as the film’s strongest market, with 26% occupancy across 673 shows. Mumbai and Ahmedabad lag at 17.5% and 15%, respectively, while Bengaluru and Surat remain below the 11% mark, reflecting weaker audience interest across the South and West.

Overseas, Batwara 1947 added just Rs 0.50 crore on Tuesday, taking its international total to Rs 6.75 crore and worldwide gross to Rs 43.29 crore. With such modest earnings against its high production scale, the film appears to await a turnaround over the weekend.
