Netflix is bringing back Lust Stories with a third installment of its acclaimed anthology franchise. Lust Stories 3 will premiere on the streaming platform on September 18, with four filmmakers telling separate stories centred on love, desire, relationships and intimacy.
The new edition brings together Vikramaditya Motwane, Kiran Rao, Shakun Batra and Vishal Bhardwaj. The quartet will present four standalone stories, each approaching relationships and human connection from a different perspective. The anthology is produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP and Ashi Dua’s Flying Unicorn Entertainment.
The franchise began with Lust Stories in 2018, which featured segments directed by Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Karan Johar. The film went on to receive an International Emmy nomination. Lust Stories 2 followed in 2023, bringing together R Balki, Konkona Sen Sharma, Sujoy Ghosh and Amit Ravindernath Sharma.
Four filmmakers, four perspectives
Lust Stories 3 continues the format of bringing together filmmakers with distinctly different approaches to storytelling. Motwane, Rao, Batra and Bhardwaj will explore the emotional and complicated spaces surrounding intimacy, with each story reflecting its director’s individual style.
The cast includes Radhika Apte, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditi Rao Hydari, Radhika Madan, Sana Thampi, Vijay Varma, Abhishek Banerjee, Siddharth, Ali Fazal and Gurfateh Pirzada. While details about the individual stories are being kept under wraps, the makers have indicated that the four films will examine different aspects of modern relationships, including vulnerability, agency, compromise and desire.
Netflix India’s Director of Original Films, Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, said, “What gives Lust Stories its enduring appeal is its ability to reinvent itself. Each chapter begins with a shared human impulse and arrives at a completely different emotional truth. Here, desire opens a window into power, vulnerability, agency, compromise, and the things people struggle to say aloud. Four of India’s leading directors Vikramaditya Motwane, Kiran Rao, Shakun Batra, and Vishal Bhardwaj bring four distinct perspectives, united by a singular vision: inviting audiences to interpret these relationships through the lens of their own experiences. Together with RSVP and Flying Unicorn Entertainment, we’re proud to carry this creative legacy forward. Each film offers a distinct perspective, while leaving audiences room to form their own interpretations. That is the power of this anthology.”
A new chapter for the Netflix franchise
The four directors have also contributed to the writing alongside a larger team that includes Tanaji Dasgupta, Avinash Sampath, Sumukhi Suresh, Sameeha Sabnis, Ashwathi Namboodiri, Nitesh Bhatia and Utkarshini Vashishtha. Kiran Rao, Shakun Batra and Vishal Bhardwaj are among the directors who have also written their respective segments.
Ronnie Screwvala said, “With every edition, Lust Stories has challenged conventions by bringing together exceptional filmmakers to tell deeply human stories. Over the years, the anthology has continued to evolve, reflecting the changing nuances of relationships and the many shades of modern intimacy. Netflix has been a valued partner in championing the anthology and giving these distinctive stories a global platform. We’re excited to continue this journey with Lust Stories 3, this time with 4 extraordinary storytellers in Vikramaditya Motwane, Kiran Rao, Shakun Batra and Vishal Bhardwaj.”
Ashi Dua added, “What makes Lust Stories special is its ability to bring together unique creative voices while creating a shared emotional experience. Every story in this anthology is different in tone and perspective, yet they are united by their honesty and vulnerability. We can’t wait for audiences to discover these worlds on Netflix, on 18th September, and make them their own.”
With an ensemble cast and four filmmakers at the helm, Lust Stories 3 is set to continue the franchise’s exploration of intimacy and contemporary relationships. The anthology premieres on Netflix on September 18.
