Mark your calendars, because TV’s biggest night is almost here. The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. In the US, the ceremony kicks off at 8 pm ET, which means Indian audiences will have to stay up, or wake up early, to catch it live.
Here’s the drill for anyone tuning in from India. The show will stream live on JioHotstar starting at 4:30 am IST on September 15, with the actual awards beginning at 5:30 am IST. That is an early morning affair. But if getting up at dawn isn’t your thing, the full ceremony will also be available on demand right after.
Law & Order: SVU star, Mariska Hargitay, is stepping into hosting duties for the first time, and she’s clearly thrilled about it. In a statement, she said, “Bringing important stories into the light has been the heartbeat of my career. It’s my great honour to host the 78th Emmy Awards, in the 100th birthday year of my beloved NBC, and celebrate this extraordinary community of storytelling.”
There’s also a big emotional moment lined up for the night. Michael J. Fox will receive the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award during the primetime telecast, honouring his decades of work in Parkinson’s disease research and advocacy. It’s a rare honour.
Since it was established in 2002, the award has been given out only six times, with past recipients including Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, Sean Penn, and last year’s winners Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen. Fox himself picked up his 19th Emmy nomination this year, for his guest turn in Apple TV’s Shrinking.
As for what is dominating the nominations list, HBO’s medical drama The Pitt is leading the pack with a massive 25 nods, putting it at the centre of nearly every big category this year. Right behind it is Hacks, which pulled in 24 nominations, officially making it the most-nominated comedy series in Emmy history. Other shows in the race include DTF St. Louis, The Bear, All Her Fault, The Gilded Age, Abbott Elementary, Only Murders in the Building and Euphoria.
So, whether you’re pulling an all-nighter or setting a 4 am alarm, the 78th Emmy Awards promise a night full of surprises, big wins, and probably a few upsets too.
