On the occasion of Asha Bhosle’s birth anniversary tomorrow, September 8, AR Rahman is set to unveil Asha Forever, a special tribute song he recorded with the legendary singer before her passing. The song is also expected to bring together several prominent names from the entertainment fraternity who shared a close and special bond with Asha Ji.
Sources close to the project reveal that Asha Forever was originally envisioned as a much larger celebration for Asha Bhosle during her lifetime. Rahman had planned to bring together the industry’s biggest names in her presence, creating a special moment that would celebrate the relationships and memories she had built over decades.
However, following her passing, the celebration could no longer take place as originally planned. Rahman was still keen to see the vision through and felt that the idea of bringing everyone together in Asha Ji’s honour should not be lost.
The team therefore explored the use of AI technology to help realise elements of the original vision. Importantly, the technology has been used with consent and only to recreate a celebration that had already been conceived during her lifetime, but can sadly no longer take place in reality.
A source close to the project says, “This was originally planned as a celebration for Asha Ji, with Rahman Saab wanting to bring the whole industry together in her presence. It was meant to be a very special celebration of her life, her music and the relationships she shared with so many people. After her passing, he was very keen that the idea should still live on. That is when the possibility of using AI came into the picture. The technology has been used with consent and purely because what was originally planned can no longer happen in reality.”
Releasing on her birthday, Asha Forever is set to be a celebration of one of Indian music’s most enduring voices and of the extraordinary relationships Asha Bhosle forged with generations of artists and personalities across the entertainment industry.
