Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel’s debut film Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai completed 25 years since its release. Upon its release, the film received rave reviews and was an instant hit among fans. It remains one of the most popular and iconic Bollywood films due to the fresh pairing of Ameesha and Hrithik, the actress’ innocence, Hrithik’s charm and flawless dancing skills. All these coupled with an intense, entertaining story have kept the craze for the film alive even after more than two decades.
The film became so popular that Ameesha Patel received letters written in blood. Yes, you read that right. In a recent interview, the actress spoke about how her life changed after the release of the film and said, “The world starts worshipping you. There is definitely a bounce in your step. You are recognized everywhere. That’s the one major change from being just a normal girl next door, you become everyone’s heartthrob. With a film like Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai, you live in their hearts. They’ve taken home the characters; it’s just not an ordinary film. Rohit and Sonia became the nation’s crush all over the world. You’re recognized at airports, restaurants, gyms, wherever you’re stepping foot people want your autograph, they want your pictures. So that’s obviously your first brush with stardom and it’s euphoric.”
She then recalled crazy fan interactions and said that people asked them to sign their autographs on their hands. She said, “Hrithik and I had our first live performance on stage in Kolkata. The stadiums were packed. People were screaming ‘once more’. People coming with their hands or with money and with pictures of God, saying ‘autograph this’. Till date I don’t sign on money and I don’t sign on God’s pictures. But people literally give you their hands and say ‘we’re never going to wash our hands’. Crazy things like that. Letters of blood written to us. There were so many people who had written me love letters in their blood.”
Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai also starred Anupam Kher, Dalip Tahil, Mohnish Bahl, Ashish Vidyarthi, Satish Shah, Tannaz Irani and Farida Jalal among others. The Rakesh Roshan directorial has been re-released in theatres to mark its 25th anniversary.
