The composer, who first teamed up with Vijay for AR Murugadoss’ Kaththi in 2014, went on to score music for several of the actor’s biggest blockbusters, becoming one of the defining musical voices of the latter half of Vijay’s film career.
“It has been a thoroughly amazing and emotional journey with you through Jana Nayagan, Leo, Beast, Master and Kaththi. Thank you actor Vijay sir for the unlimited trust and memories that I will cherish forever. The music lives on,” he wrote.
The post quickly resonated with fans, many of whom revisited the duo’s iconic songs that have become staples of Tamil popular culture.
Across five films, Vijay and Anirudh delivered a string of chart-topping tracks that continue to enjoy massive popularity. From the energetic Selfie Pulla in Kaththi to the viral phenomenon Vaathi Coming and the motivational Kutti Story from Master, the partnership consistently produced songs that dominated playlists and social media alike. Leo added crowd favourites such as Naa Ready and Bloody Sweet, while Jana Nayagan has already contributed Thalapathy Kacheri to that legacy.

Anirudh’s farewell was not limited to social media. On the day Jana Nayagan released, the composer visited Chennai’s Vettri Theatres to experience the film alongside fans. Videos from the venue captured an enthusiastic reception as the crowd erupted upon seeing him.
The composer greeted moviegoers, waved to the cheering audience and even recreated Vijay’s iconic hand gesture from Mersal, much to the delight of fans. After the screening, Anirudh admitted he was overwhelmed by emotion while watching Vijay’s final outing on the big screen.
His appearance added another emotional layer to a release that already carries enormous significance for Vijay’s fanbase. Jana Nayagan is widely regarded as the actor’s farewell to cinema before he shifts his complete focus to politics.
The film has also emerged as a major commercial success. Within just four days of release, Jana Nayagan crossed the Rs 200 crore mark worldwide and has now amassed approximately Rs 217.48 crore globally, cementing its position among the biggest Tamil releases of the year.
Directed by H Vinoth, the action drama features Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol in pivotal roles, alongside Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani. Produced by Venkat K Narayana under the KVN Productions banner, the film is also notable for being the production house’s maiden Tamil venture. Jana Nayagan is a partial adaptation of the National Award-winning Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari.
