ASSI, the courtroom drama led by Taapsee Pannu and backed by powerhouses T-Series and Benaras Mediaworks, has been steadily building buzz for its sharp messaging and rooted storytelling. It is supposedly bringing forth truth that would make the audiences uncomfortable. Now, director Anubhav Sinha spoke about the thought and intent behind the film’s striking title. He opened up about ASSI and what made him create such a movie.
Further sharing what encouraged him to make a film like ASSI, Sinha added, “When you work on a story like this, it is necessary to get to the genesis of the act. What nurtures this criminal entitlement? What does the crime leave behind? But this time I was incredulously fascinated by the inertia of the fortunate which included myself. Those who have only read about it. I felt compelled to make a film around all of these.”
Alongside Taapsee, the film features Kani Kusruti, Revathy, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. There would be special appearances by Naseeruddin Shah, Supriya Pathak and Seema Pahwa.
