Batwara 1947 Vs Awarapan 2 Box Office Day 2: Sunny Deol Starrer Trails Emraan Hashmiâs Film

Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947 and Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 are currently competing at the box office, with both films arriving in theatres on August 14, ahead of the Independence Day weekend. While Batwara 1947 is a Partition drama set against the backdrop of India’s independence, Awarapan 2 is a sequel to Hashmi’s 2007 romantic action drama Awarapan. With the two films offering audiences distinctly different stories, here’s a look at how they have performed at the box office so far.

As per box office tracker Sacnilk, Awarapan 2 collected approximately Rs 33.75 crore on its second day. The film opened at Rs 22 crore on Friday and witnessed a significant jump in collections on Saturday. Its India net collection currently stands at Rs 55.75 crore, while its gross collection has reached approximately Rs 72.90 crore.

Batwara 1947, meanwhile, opened at Rs 5.75 crore on Friday and recorded a considerable increase on its second day, earning approximately Rs 13.5 crore. Its India net collection currently stands at Rs 19.25 crore, while its gross collection is estimated at Rs 26.41 crore. On day two, the film recorded an overall occupancy of 35.37% across 8,071 shows.

Going by the early numbers, Awarapan 2 has established a considerable lead over Batwara 1947 at the box office. 

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Batwara 1947 stars Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta in the lead roles. The film explores the human cost of Partition and marks the reunion of Sunny and Preity on screen after several years. It is based on Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai, which tells a story of displacement, communal tension and humanity during one of the most turbulent periods in Indian history.

Awarapan 2, meanwhile, brings Emraan Hashmi back to the world of Awarapan nearly two decades after the original film. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, the sequel also stars Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi.
