About Normal
Set in a seemingly unremarkable Midwestern town, the story follows Ulysses, an interim sheriff sent in for a temporary posting, an assignment that promises distance from his troubled past and a chance at quiet routine. But when a botched bank robbery disrupts the town’s calm exterior, Ulysses finds himself drawn into a chain of events that expose something far more dangerous beneath the surface. What begins as a contained incident spirals into a layered mystery, where every answer leads to deeper questions and every face hides intent.
At once an action film, a slow-burning thriller and a modern western, Normal plays with tone and expectation. It embraces the rhythms of classic cinema while pushing into unpredictable territory, allowing tension to build gradually before erupting into moments of sharp, visceral action. The film’s world is one where morality is fluid, loyalties are uncertain, and survival depends as much on instinct as it does on strength.
PVR Inox Pictures will be releasing Normal in cinemas across India on April 17, 2026.Director Ben Wheatley describes the film as a reimagining of the traditional western dynamic. He says, “When I first read the script, it felt like an inverted High Noon where instead of protecting the town from outside forces, the sheriff is forced to confront the town itself. We wanted to ground the action in reality, using practical elements and a classical visual style, while telling a story that reflects the complexities of the present day.”
For Odenkirk, who also serves as producer, the film’s strength lies in its layered storytelling. He adds, “Normal starts quietly, almost like a mystery, drawing you into the lives of these characters and their tensions. Then it builds, and builds, until everything collides. It’s not just about action, it’s about the people, the humour, and the unpredictability of what unfolds.”
