Diljit Dosanjhâs Satluj Removed From OTT Until Further Notice

The film Satluj, originally titled Punjab 95, has been taken down from the streaming platform ZEE5 in India until further notice. The Diljit Dosanjh-starrer, which is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, had only recently premiered on the service after years of delays and a lengthy battle with the censor board.

The movie, which opted for a direct-to-OTT release in India after reportedly facing demands for over 120 cuts from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), is currently unavailable for viewers in the country. On the removal, ZEE5 issued an official statement, confirming that they are exploring legal options to restore the film.

In its statement, ZEE5 expressed gratitude for the audience’s reception, writing, “The response to Satluj since its release has been truly overwhelming. We are deeply grateful to every viewer who chose to subscribe, watch and champion the film. Your love and support have meant a great deal to us and to everyone who brought this story to life.”

The platform promised its continued support for the project, stating, “At Zee5, we stand firmly by Satluj and the creative vision behind it. We believe powerful storytelling has the ability to inspire, endure and leave a lasting impact. We remain committed to championing authentic and meaningful narratives.”

Addressing the film’s current status, team ZEE5 added, “In light of the current developments, Satluj will be unavailable in India until further notice. We remain committed to exploring every appropriate avenue through due process to bring the film back to our audiences at the earliest opportunity.” The platform further mentioned that its commitment to stories told with “conviction, artistic integrity and purpose” remains “unwavering.” The film’s social media update shared a similar sentiment, “Satluj may have paused. But the conversation it started hasn’t. Thank you for the incredible love. We hope to bring it back soon.”

Before its release, the film faced a complex journey with the CBFC, involving requests for multiple edits, including changes to the title and references to Punjab. Director Honey Trehan and the producers had maintained that the film was based on documented events, a stance that led to a prolonged delay. The movie stars Diljit Dosanjh alongside Arjun Rampal, Kanwaljit Singh, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan.
