Dolly Parton spent decades making the world smile, but behind her famously bright public persona, the country music icon was reportedly struggling deeply after the death of her husband, Carl Dean, and things worsened after she recently lost her brother, Coy Parton.
Parton died at 80 on August 25, 2026, following what her representatives described as a “brief battle” with cancer. She had been receiving care at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville and was surrounded by loved ones when she died. But in the months before her death, those close to the singer noticed a significant change in her. According to family friend Nikki Lund, Parton had pulled back from the public eye after Dean’s death in March 2025.
