For Meghna Gulzar, it is important to first consider the facts behind the motive based on the relevancy of the tale in real life. She said, “The lines which you talk about are facts. The facts are laid in front of you. If you say you are making a ‘based on true events’ film or an ‘inspired by true events’ film, then you don’t hold the rights to bring facts.” Her approach to making such films requires the utmost responsibility. “Whenever I make such films, I work on it very responsibly.”
That being said, making such films isn’t very hard if you have a strong understanding of the facts while ensuring the accuracy of the message to be delivered. She continued, “And if you have made a decision to keep your intentions pure, and that you do not want to distort the facts, then nothing is difficult. That is the first step in making everything else easy.”

Meghna Gulzar is no stranger to this genre, with multiple such tales under her filmography belt. These include the highly acclaimed Talvar, Raazi, and Sam Bahadur, among others. Her flair for narrating stories, combined with the right casting, is what helps her connect with the audience.
Even Prithviraj Sukumaran stated during the interview how well she manages to bring out the true intent of the character from the actor with her vision. He said, “Meghna is least bothered about the actor, but she cares a whole lot about the character. She creates these wonderful, well-written characters and she entrusts those characters to those she believes will be good in those roles.” Meghna Gulzar’s Daayra is set to have its theatrical release on September 18, 2026.
