Fuze opens in the middle of a crisis. An unexploded bomb from the past is discovered in London, triggering fear, urgency, and a city-wide evacuation. But what looks like a disaster response soon reveals another layer — a carefully planned heist hiding behind the chaos.
This dual narrative becomes the film’s backbone. While authorities focus on preventing a catastrophe, another game quietly unfolds in the background, and that’s where the real tension lies.
Speed Over Silence, Tension Over Emotion
Director David Mackenzie keeps the film moving at a relentless pace. There’s barely a moment to pause, and that works in the film’s favour for most of its runtime.
Performances by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Theo James add energy to the narrative, even though the film doesn’t dive too deeply into their characters. The focus remains on action, timing, and execution rather than emotional depth.
A Narrative That Constantly Changes Direction
What keeps Fuze engaging is how often it surprises the viewer. Just when things start to feel predictable, the story introduces a new twist that reshapes the situation.
The film plays with expectations, making the audience question what’s really happening and who is actually in control. This unpredictability becomes its strongest tool, especially in the final stretch where the story flips its own setup.
Where the Film Holds Back
Despite its gripping pace, the film occasionally feels more mechanical than emotional. Characters serve the plot rather than drive it, which can create a slight disconnect.
Some twists, while entertaining, push the boundaries of realism. For viewers who prefer grounded storytelling, this might feel a bit excessive. Still, the film’s energy often compensates for these gaps.
