Hombale Films, one of India’s leading production houses, did not publicly wish Kannada superstar Rishab Shetty on his birthday this year (July 7), sparking fresh speculation about the actor’s equation with the banner behind the Kantara franchise. In previous years, including 2025, Hombale Films, headed by Vijay Kiragandur, had shared birthday wishes for Rishab on social media. This year, however, there was no such post, prompting fans and industry watchers to take notice.

Speculation gains momentum
The absence of a public birthday wish has fuelled online speculation about a possible change in the relationship between the two. Some social media users have linked it to reports that Rishab is increasingly focusing on projects under his own banner, Rishab Shetty Films, including aspects of Kantara: Chapter 2. However, neither Rishab nor Hombale Films has commented on the speculation.
A successful partnership
When Kantara was released in 2022, the collaboration between Rishab Shetty and Hombale Films proved to be one of Indian cinema’s biggest success stories. Producer Vijay Kiragandur had credited Rishab’s deep connection to his roots for making the film a cultural phenomenon, while Rishab had praised the banner for backing his vision without hesitation despite its highly localised subject.
Earlier this year, rumours also surfaced after fans noticed that Rishab had unfollowed Hombale Films on social media. However, industry sources close to the development reportedly dismissed suggestions of any fallout, saying the move reflected the actor’s growing focus on his own production house rather than any personal differences.

Rishab’s upcoming projects
Rishab has confirmed that scripting work on Kantara: Chapter 2 is underway, although the film is still in its early stages. He is currently busy shooting Jai Hanuman, directed by Prasanth Varma. He will also headline The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
