Joju George and veteran filmmaker Joshiy are joining hands once again. After delivering the acclaimed Porinju Mariam Jose (2019) and the action drama Antony (2023), the duo is set to collaborate on a new feature titled Kanaandesham. The film will be scripted by actor, writer and filmmaker Anoop Menon, marking another interesting creative partnership in Malayalam cinema.
A Successful Partnership Continues
The project was officially announced on Sunday to coincide with Joshiy’s birthday. Sharing the announcement on social media, Joju wrote, “Announcing our next film directed by the living Legend….happy birthday dearest joshiy sir..seeking all your blessings for our dream project.. The Legend Back Again.”
The announcement video also unveiled a striking tagline that translates to, “This is your earth, your sky,” hinting at the film’s emotional and larger-than-life ambitions. While the makers have kept the story under wraps, the project is being positioned as a commercial entertainer that blends mass appeal with emotional depth, a combination that has become synonymous with Joshiy’s collaborations with Joju.
The film also marks Joju’s reunion with Anoop Menon more than a decade after Hotel California (2013), in which the latter not only penned the screenplay but also played one of the lead roles. As a writer, Anoop has delivered several memorable scripts over the years, including Cocktail, Beautiful and Trivandrum Lodge, all of which earned praise for their strong character writing and emotionally engaging narratives.

A Pan-India Vision
Kanaandesham will be produced by Sijo Vadakkan and Varky George under the Appu Pathu Pappu banner. According to the makers, the film will feature some of Malayalam cinema’s biggest stars and leading technicians, although the remaining cast and crew are yet to be announced.
The project is being mounted on a large scale and is planned as a pan-India release. The makers intend to release the film in five languages, reflecting the growing ambition of Malayalam cinema to reach audiences beyond its traditional markets. Production is expected to begin in August.
Joshiy remains one of Malayalam cinema’s most influential filmmakers, with a career spanning over four decades and blockbusters such as New Delhi, Dhruvam, Lelam, Run Baby Run and Porinju Mariam Jose to his credit. His recent collaborations with Joju have further reinforced the actor’s standing as one of the industry’s most dependable leading men, with both films showcasing his ability to balance intensity with emotional vulnerability.
Joju, meanwhile, continues to maintain a packed slate. He was most recently seen in Shaji Kailas’ Varavu and has several projects lined up, including Aja Sundari, the sequel to his directorial debut Pani, another film that he will direct titled Paripadi, and Aasha, co-starring Urvashi.
Joshiy is equally busy, with another much-anticipated collaboration already in the pipeline. The veteran filmmaker is also working on an untitled action entertainer with Unni Mukundan. Announced on Joshiy’s birthday last year, the film reunites him with Porinju Mariam Jose writer Abhilash N Chandran.
With Kanaandesham bringing together Joshiy’s commercial filmmaking instincts, Joju George’s commanding screen presence and Anoop Menon’s proven storytelling, expectations are already running high. More details regarding the cast, technical crew and storyline are expected to be revealed in the coming months as the film gears up to begin production.
