Former Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax and his wife, Cerina Fairfax, have died, and their deaths have come as a shock to many. Once the second-most-powerful state politician in Virginia, Justin shot and killed his wife, Cerina and killed himself thereafter. According to multiple reports, Justin and Cerina were having trouble in their marriage and were undergoing divorce proceedings.
Justin Fairfax lost custody of his kids
According to a report in News4, Cerina filed for divorce from Justin in 2025. Amid the proceedings, a judge granted custody of their kids to Cerina and ordered Justin to move out of their home. It was Justin’s heavy alcohol consumption which led to the decision by the court. In the custody opinion, a judge wrote:
“The wife testified that heavy daily alcohol consumption by the father has become the norm.”
