Shooting for the Bollywood zombie thriller Pralay, starring Ranveer Singh and Mollywood actress Kalyani Priyadarshan, kicked off earlier this month. Kalyani has revealed that she is “fully locked in” to the demanding Mumbai schedule. However, her filming commitments meant missing her cherished Onam traditions back home in Kerala.

Kalyani gives Onam festivities a skip
“Fully locked in to Pralay in Mumbai this Onam, so no Sadhya with the fam, no pretty white saree pics, no festive content. Here’s a dump of random things from the last couple of months instead. Hope you all had a truly happy Onam,” Kalyani, known for Bro Daddy and Hridayam in Malayalam, shared on Instagram.
Reports of Kalyani being under consideration for Pralay first emerged in January this year, with her presence confirmed weeks later. Her biggest hit to date, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, was a Malayalam fantasy superhero film. Her song “Abdi Abdi” from the AR Rahman-composed Genie later became a chartbuster. “As an actor, I always try to push and challenge myself to do things I have never done before,” Kalyani wrote in a social media post in October 2025.

Pralay has ambition written all over it
Coming back to Pralay, the film is being billed as a survival-driven action thriller. Directed by Jai Mehta, who previously co-directed the acclaimed Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, Pralay is reportedly mounted on a budget of around Rs 300 crore, making it one of Ranveer Singh’s biggest ventures to date.
As filming gets underway, the biggest intrigue remains the true nature of Ranveer’s character and how the makers intend to construct their apocalyptic world. Hansal Mehta recently revealed that Ranveer Singh personally reached out to director Jai Mehta after admiring his work. Once the Dhurandhar star liked the original concept, the team invested heavily in developing the post-apocalyptic film.
