Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year franchise is set to return with its third instalment, but this time, the popular property is reportedly heading to the OTT space. Unlike the first two films, the upcoming chapter is expected to take a darker, edgier and more intense approach straying away from the original theme of the series.
Shanaya Kapoor, who recently earned praise for her performance in Tu Yaa Main (2026), is reportedly set to headline Student Of The Year 3. Backed by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment, the project is being developed as a web series and is expected to offer a significant tonal shift from its predecessors.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Student Of The Year 3 will differ from the earlier instalments in both format and storytelling. While Student Of The Year (2012) and Student Of The Year 2 (2019) were released theatrically, the third instalment is reportedly being designed as an OTT series.
The upcoming series is also expected to move away from the glossy, light-hearted treatment associated with the earlier films. A source cited by the publication described the show as a blend of the privileged and high-pressure student world seen in Netflix’s Class and the provocative, emotionally charged storytelling of Euphoria.
The source further stated that the series will explore complicated friendships, relationships and conflicts while targeting a wider, youth-focused audience across different markets.
Student Of The Year 3 is reportedly slated to premiere on JioHotstar this year. There had earlier been speculation that the project could be titled Student Of The Year 3 – After The Dark. However, according to the report, the makers have not yet finalised the title, which is expected to be revealed with the official announcement.
