In an important update that has got fans buzzing, Prakash Raj has officially joined the cast of the Ajay Devgn-led Drishyam 3. While his entry into the Hindi franchise is an exciting development, it has also triggered intense speculation regarding whether he is stepping into the shoes of Akshaye Khanna.
Addressing the rumours, Prakash Raj took to social media to confirm his role in the film while setting the record straight. He expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “Started shooting for this engaging franchise #Drishyam3 in Hindi. With a wonderful team and a scintillating role to play. I’m sure you will love it. (And yes, I’m not replacing anyone..)”
The clarification from Prakash Raj comes in the wake of reports about Akshaye Khanna’s exit from the franchise. Akshaye, who played an important part in the second part, reportedly walked out of Drishyam 3 due to a combination of remuneration issues and creative differences.
According to reports, the actor had demanded a fee of Rs 21 crore for the upcoming film. While the makers attempted to negotiate the terms, it is reported that Akshaye eventually stopped responding to calls. Beyond the financial aspects, creative disagreements also played a role. Reports suggest that Akshaye wanted to wear a wig for his character in this part, a move the production team disagreed with as his character appeared without one in the previous film.
Producer Kumar Mangat Pathak further clarified the timeline of the exit, noting that while some suggested the actor left following the success of Dhurandhar, he actually exited the project just a day before the film’s release in theatres.
After Akshaye’s exit, there were initial reports that Jaideep Ahlawat had been cast as a replacement. However, director Abhishek Pathak clarified that Jaideep would be playing an entirely new character rather than taking over Akshaye’s role. Similarly, Prakash Raj’s casting is being viewed as a fresh addition to the high-stakes thriller.
Drishyam 3 is one of the most awaited films of 2026, continuing the gripping story of Vijay Salgaonkar and his family. The film will see the return of the original cast, including Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran, and Rajat Kapoor. The film is currently slated to hit theatres on October 2, 2026.
