Kuku Kohli tragically passed away at the age of 77 on August 25, 2026, due to a heart attack leaving behind a vast legacy of classic hits. He was born in Peshawar, Pakistan in the year 1949.
Several big names such as Rajpal Yadav, Katrina Kaif, Rohit Shetty, and Vicky Kaushal, among many others visited his funeral to pay their respects. Many celebrities also took to social platforms to express their griefs on this shocking news. Salman Khan was one of them who wrote a message dedicated to the late director’s wife, Aruna Irani. He said, “Rest in peace Kuku ji, Aruna ji, my heart goes out to you. May God give u strength.”
Kuku Kohli is survived by his wife Aruna Irani. He also has two children from his first marriage to Rita Kohli, Pooja Kohli and Karishma Kohli. Both the children have followed their father’s footsteps, working as a film producer and a filmmaker/assistant director, respectively. Karishma Kohli bore the weight of the family’s strength as she helped carry her father’s mortal remains. His wife on the other hand could be seen visibly in a distraught state.

Kuku grew up admiring the art of cinema and quickly became a prominent name in Bollywood. He went on to direct some commercial hits including the likes of Phool Aur Kaante (1991) and Suhaag (1994). Both these movies ironically starred Ajay Devgn who recently shared a heartfelt note for him. He said, “Some people change the course of your life forever. Kuku Ji was one of those people for me. Forever grateful for the faith you had in me. You will be deeply missed, Kuku ji. Om Shaanti.”
Kuku Kohli was one of the few big names, responsible for carving the foundation on which Ajay Devgn triumphs now.
