The shoot of Silambarasan TR’s upcoming film Arasan is progressing steadily, with director Vetri Maaran and his team working towards a Deepavali release. Amid the film’s ongoing production, the actor has now offered fans a glimpse into the demanding schedule behind the project.
Silambarasan opens up about demanding schedule
Taking to Instagram Stories, Silambarasan shared an update about the intense filming process, revealing that the production has largely been operating after sunset.
“More than two months of continuous night shoots. My circadian rhythm is officially confused,” he wrote.
The update suggests that a significant portion of Arasan unfolds during the night. This aligns with the film’s first glimpse, which featured several dark, atmospheric visuals. The teaser introduced audiences to two distinct shades of Silambarasan’s character, including a younger, street-smart version and an older, greying gangster who appears to be facing trial for a series of murders.
The project has been moving ahead at a brisk pace in recent months. Reports had earlier indicated that the makers were constructing a massive set along Chennai’s East Coast Road to facilitate an extensive shooting schedule. With filming continuing uninterrupted through night schedules, the team appears focused on completing production in time for its festive season release.
Familiar faces return to the Vada Chennai universe
Arasan has generated considerable excitement because of its connection to the world of Vetri Maaran’s acclaimed gangster drama Vada Chennai. While the film is not a direct sequel, it is set within the same narrative universe and has been described by its makers as “an untold tale from the world of Vada Chennai”.
Several familiar characters are set to return. Andrea Jeremiah will reprise her role as Chandra, while Samuthirakani returns as Guna. Actor Vijay Sethupathi has reportedly been cast as a police officer, adding another major presence to the ensemble.
Tourist Family actor Yogalakshmi recently confirmed that she plays Silambarasan’s love interest in the film. Kishore is also expected to return to the franchise, while Yogi Babu and Jibin Gopinath have been cast in significant roles.
Interestingly, despite the shared universe, Dhanush’s Anbu will not feature in Arasan. The film reportedly draws from an earlier version of the Vada Chennai screenplay that Vetri Maaran had originally developed when Silambarasan was being considered for the lead role years ago. That creative history has only heightened anticipation surrounding the project.
Produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu under the V Creations banner, Arasan also marks a notable first-time collaboration. Composer Anirudh Ravichander joins hands with both Silambarasan and Vetri Maaran for the first time, adding further intrigue to one of Tamil cinema’s most eagerly awaited releases.
While the makers have remained tight-lipped about the story, expectations remain high given Vetri Maaran’s track record and the enduring popularity of the Vada Chennai universe. With production moving swiftly and the actor enduring months of overnight shoots, Arasan is shaping up to be one of the biggest Tamil releases of the Deepavali season.
