Sourav Ganguly debuted for the Indian cricket team on January 11, 1992, in an ODI match against West Indies in Brisbane. Andrew Cummins dismissed the then 19-year-old youngster at just three runs, and he was dropped immediately. Reports were rife that Ganguly was arrogant, and he went back to his domestic team, Bengal Cricket Team and started playing for them. After being dropped out of the national side, while most people thought Sourav’s journey was over, he scored heavily in the following Ranji seasons.
Courtesy of scoring 171 runs in the Duleep Trophy, Sourav Ganguly was called by the BCCI, and he was given another chance to prove his worth in the national team. This time, the stage was cricket’s mecca, Lord’s Cricket Ground and on his debut Test match against England on June 20, 1996, Sourav scored a century after coming up on number 3. The cricketer made 131 runs in 301 balls and stunned the entire cricket world with his genius. He became the first Indian to hit a century on his debut at Lord’s, and the rest is history.
