Nayanthara has sparked conversation with a brief but striking moment in the newly released second song from Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. Titled Madhosh (Hindi), Manamohaka (Kannada), Manasaagadhe (Telugu), Thadumaarudheyyy (Tamil), and MadhuMohini (Malayalam), the romantic track is primarily centred on Yash and Tara Sutaria. However, it is Nayanthara’s appearance that has unexpectedly become one of the song’s biggest talking points.
Nayanthara’s smoking scene grabs attention
Although Nayanthara appears only briefly in the song, one particular shot has gone viral across social media. In the sequence, Yash casually passes his cigarette to her, and she takes a puff before handing it back. The understated moment has fuelled discussions among fans, who believe it hints at the bold, morally ambiguous character she will portray in the gangster drama.
The scene has been widely shared online, with many viewers describing it as one of Nayanthara’s most unconventional screen moments. Fans have also praised her effortless screen presence, suggesting that her character could emerge as one of the film’s biggest surprises.
Nayanthara has courted controversy before
This is not the first time one of Nayanthara’s scenes has generated public debate. In Thirunaal (2016), a brief sequence involving a schoolboy kissing her character drew mixed reactions. While director P.S. Ramnath defended it as an innocent moment that suited the narrative and pointed out that it had been cleared by the Censor Board, some viewers criticised the scene.
Earlier, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015) also made headlines when Nayanthara’s character was shown buying beer from a liquor outlet. Although the scene fit the character, it attracted criticism from certain groups before the film’s release because such portrayals remain relatively uncommon for mainstream female leads in South Indian cinema.
More recently, Annapoorani (2023) became the centre of a wider controversy over certain religious themes depicted in the film. Following protests and legal complaints from some groups, the film was removed from streaming, after which Nayanthara issued a statement saying there had been no intention to hurt religious sentiments.
Toxic gears up for release
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups stars Yash alongside Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi and Rukmini Vasanth. The multilingual action drama has steadily intensified its promotions through songs and character glimpses ahead of its theatrical release on August 26.
With Madhosh highlighting the emotional tension between the lead characters while also offering intriguing glimpses of Nayanthara’s mysterious role, anticipation for the film continues to grow.
