It has been nearly three decades since rap legend Tupac Shakur was gunned down in Las Vegas, and the case remains one of America’s biggest murder mysteries. And now, the case has finally reached the courtroom.
Jury selection began Monday, August 10, 2026, in the trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, the former South Side Compton Crips leader accused of orchestrating the 1996 drive-by shooting that killed the legendary rapper. Davis, however, has pleaded not guilty.
Davis, 63, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder with a deadly weapon with the intent to promote, further, or assist a criminal gang. While prosecutors don’t allege Davis pulled the trigger that night, they argue he helped organize the attack and supplied the firearm used in the shooting.
