Responding to the backlash, Udit Narayan defended himself, saying that fans often express their admiration in different ways, whether by reaching out for a handshake or showing excitement in other gestures. He emphasised that he has always maintained a respectful demeanor and that such moments are often a result of fan enthusiasm rather than any deliberate action on his part. He also said that bodyguards were present at the event but in the heat of the moment, fans take a chance to interact with him.
The singer suggested that there could be an ulterior motive behind the controversy, pointing out that his family has always maintained a clean image. He remarked that his son Aditya Narayan stays away from controversies and some might be looking for an opportunity to stir up drama. He stressed that he values his fans’ love and enjoys making them happy during performances but he does not see himself as the kind of person being portrayed in these discussions.
Addressing the specific incident of kissing a fan, Udit Narayan described it as a spontaneous moment rather than an intentional act. He reflected on his 46-year long career in Bollywood, stating that his reputation has never been associated with inappropriate behaviour. When fans shower him with love, he usually responds by folding his hands in gratitude or bowing on stage, acknowledging the uncertainty of whether such moments will come again.
In the viral clips, he is also seen planting a kiss on another fan’s cheek, prompting cheers from the crowd as more fans continued lining up for selfies.
