Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani became one of Vidya Balan’s most loved roles. However, the actress might not be returning for Kahaani 3, if recent reports are to be believed. As per Pinkvilla, the makers are reportedly eyeing Yami Gautam to replace Balan.
The portal quoted a source as saying, “Kahaani 3 is a new story altogether. The idea is to take the franchise forward while retaining the essence of the world that audiences have loved. Yami Gautam is coming on board as the lead, and the character has a very strong arc. The film is still in the pre-production stage, and the team is working on the timelines for the shoot.”
The source also stated that Ghosh has a clear vision for Kahaani 3 and is trying to ensure that the film brings something new while staying true to the franchise.
Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, Kahaani is regarded as one of Hindi cinema’s finest mystery thrillers. Starring Vidya Balan as the pregnant Vidya Bagchi, the film follows her search for her missing husband in Kolkata. The film was both a critical and commercial success, winning several awards, including multiple Filmfare Awards.
Its follow-up, Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh, was conceived as a standalone thriller rather than a direct continuation of the first film. While Vidya Balan returned in the lead alongside Arjun Rampal, Sujoy Ghosh deliberately gave the sequel a new identity with a fresh story.
