Drishyam 2 to Hit Theatres Offering Fans a Big-screen Revisit Before Part 3

Drishyam 2 is finally set to get the theatrical run many fans felt it deserved. The makers have confirmed that the Drishyam sequel will release in cinemas across India on April 10, nearly four years after it premiered directly on Amazon Prime Video.

A second chance for the big screen

The announcement comes as a silver lining for fans who were disappointed by the recent postponement of Drishyam 3 from April 2 to May 21. While the delay briefly dampened excitement, the theatrical arrival of the second instalment now offers audiences a chance to relive the story on the big screen before the next chapter unfolds.

Released in 2021 during a time when theatres were still recovering from pandemic closures, Drishyam 2 skipped cinemas altogether and opted for a direct-to-digital premiere. Despite that, the film was widely watched and discussed, earning praise for its taut screenplay and cleverly constructed twists. However, a section of viewers had long expressed regret at not being able to experience its tension-filled narrative in a theatre setting. This April release addresses that long-standing demand.

Revisiting Georgekutty’s mind game

Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the film continues the story of Georgekutty, played by Mohanlal, and his family as they remain under the shadow of a crime that refuses to fade away. Picking up years after the events of the first film, the sequel tracks the police force’s renewed efforts to uncover evidence and close the case once and for all.

At its core, Drishyam 2 thrives on psychological tension rather than spectacle. The narrative slowly tightens its grip as suspicions resurface and past secrets threaten to unravel. The film’s most talked-about aspect upon release was its climax, which delivered a twist that caught even seasoned viewers off guard. This blend of emotional stakes and narrative ingenuity cemented its place as one of the most compelling Indian thrillers in recent years.

The film also sees the return of key cast members including Meena, reprising her role alongside Mohanlal. Their performances once again anchor the story, balancing familial vulnerability with the constant anxiety of being watched.

All eyes on Drishyam 3

The renewed spotlight on Drishyam 2 arrives at a crucial moment for the franchise. Drishyam 3 reunites Jeethu Joseph with producer Antony Perumbavoor and the lead cast, promising to take the story forward from its gripping second chapter.

Originally scheduled for an April 2 release, the third instalment was postponed due to the volatile situation in the Gulf region amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The decision was made keeping in mind the film’s overseas market, which plays a significant role in its overall box office performance.

Meanwhile, the Hindi adaptation of the franchise continues to build its own momentum. The third part, led by Ajay Devgn and directed by Abhishek Pathak, is currently slated for release on October 2, expanding the reach of the story to a wider audience.

For now, the April 10 theatrical release of Drishyam 2 serves as both a nostalgic revisit and a strategic build-up. It allows audiences to step back into Georgekutty’s world, this time with the immersive intensity that only a cinema hall can offer, setting the stage for what promises to be another gripping chapter in May.
