Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan underwent surgery on his right shoulder in Mumbai on Saturday. Doctors treated a severe rotator cuff injury that had worsened over the years. The operation lasted about three and a half hours. He is now recovering under medical supervision.
Both his shoulders have been affected by rotator cuff damage and muscle tearing, doctors said, recommending prompt surgical intervention. Rather than operating on both at once, physicians chose to stagger the procedures given how painful recovery from shoulder surgery can be. So, the left shoulder will be addressed in about two months’ time.
The root of the problem traces back to 2016.
Although he was told to rest and let the injury heal, the OG actor kept up a packed schedule of public appearances and rallies. Enthusiastic supporters reaching out to shake his hand or grab his arm during these events, including a notable episode in Rayalaseema following the 2019 elections, reportedly kept reinjuring the shoulder over time. This isn’t his first procedure this year either: he had nasal surgery back in April.
