An intriguing new pairing may be brewing in Bollywood, and this one brings together an established superstar with one of the industry’s hottest directors of the moment. Filmfare has learnt that Laxman Utekar, fresh off the success of Chhaava, is eyeing Hrithik Roshan for his next directorial venture.
A source close to the development reveals, “Laxman Utekar has an exciting new script and he’s zeroed in on Hrithik Roshan. For now, Hrithik is listening to the narration, and those in the know have revealed that he too is excited about the story. But things are far from being final. We’ll have to wait and watch if this collaboration comes to fruition.”
If it does come together, it would mark the first time Hrithik and Utekar have worked with each other, a meeting point between Utekar’s recent run of genre-hopping successes (Luka Chuppi, Mimi, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, and the period actioner Chhaava) and Hrithik’s action-hero legacy. Utekar currently has Eetha, his period musical drama starring Shraddha Kapoor, locked for a December 4 release, which suggests any Hrithik collaboration would likely be some time away from going on floors.
The timing is notable for Hrithik as well. With War 2 behind him and Krrish 4, his directorial debut, reportedly facing delays over budget and scheduling, industry buzz has suggested the actor may be open to a mass entertainer in the interim, making a script exciting enough to pull him in from a filmmaker on as hot a streak as Utekar an appealing prospect.
