It’s shaping up to be a full-circle moment for Bollywood’s one-time hit machine. Filmfare has learnt that Sajid Khan is set to reunite with Akshay Kumar for a new film, marking their first collaboration since Housefull 2 over a decade ago.
A source close to the development reveals, “Sajid Khan will direct Akshay Kumar again. Their new film has been green lit by the production house. Sajid is currently working on Yashvardhan Ahuja’s film with Nitanshi Goel. Once that’s wrapped up, Sajid and Akshay will shoot their film in London.”
The reunion comes at a significant point in Sajid’s career arc. He and Akshay were once one of the industry’s most bankable director-actor pairs, delivering back-to-back successes with Heyy Babyy, Housefull, and Housefull 2. That partnership came to an abrupt halt in 2018, when Sajid stepped down from Housefull 4 after being named in multiple sexual harassment allegations during the #MeToo movement. Akshay had since maintained that he’d be open to working with Sajid again if the filmmaker was acquitted, and with Sajid’s directorial comeback already underway, the timing of this reported reunion won’t go unnoticed.
That comeback is currently in motion with Hero Ki Horrorine, the horror-comedy marking the Bollywood debut of Yashvardhan Ahuja, Govinda’s son, opposite Laapataa Ladies breakout Nitanshi Goel. The film is backed by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms alongside producer Amar Butala, the same production house reportedly circling the Khan-Kumar reunion as well.
Once Hero Ki Horrorine wraps, our source indicates Sajid and Akshay will head to London to begin filming their project, though further details on cast, title, and genre remain under wraps for now.
