Saif Ali Khan has opened up about an early experience that left him feeling nervous while working alongside one of Indian cinema’s biggest legends, Amitabh Bachchan. The actor recently revisited his first on-screen collaboration with Bachchan and recalled how intimidating it was to share the frame with the veteran actor.
Saif is set to make an appearance on the upcoming episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati to promote his much-awaited film Haiwaan, co-starring Akshay Kumar. During the appearance, the actor spoke about working with Amitabh Bachchan for the first time in Eklavya: The Royal Guard, which released in 2007.
Looking back at the experience, Saif admitted that he was initially nervous about performing alongside Bachchan. With several lengthy dialogues to deliver, the actor made sure he was thoroughly prepared before stepping onto the set.
Recalling a particular moment from the shoot, Saif said, “I had long dialogues, so I was learning them. The next day, when it was Amit ji’s scene, he said, ‘Saif, just give me the cue.’ Then he asked me to say the entire dialogue, and I thought, ‘Thank God I had prepared.’”
The actor’s recollection offers a glimpse into the pressure he felt while working with Bachchan, whose decades-long career and commanding screen presence made the experience particularly daunting. Their collaboration in Eklavya: The Royal Guard brought together two generations of performers in a period drama centred around a royal family.
Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Eklavya: The Royal Guard remains an important title in Saif Ali Khan’s filmography and featured him alongside Amitabh Bachchan in a prominent role.
Meanwhile, Saif is gearing up for the release of Haiwaan, which marks his first collaboration with filmmaker Priyadarshan. The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on September 11 and will also reunite Saif with Akshay Kumar nearly 18 years after their previous collaboration.
In Haiwaan, Saif takes on the challenging role of a visually impaired character. The film is expected to showcase the actor in a distinct avatar as he shares the screen with Akshay once again.
