Ajith Kumar Thanks Tamil Nadu CM Vijay For Announcing Dedicated Motorsports City In Chennai

Ajith Kumar has welcomed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s announcement of a dedicated Motorsports City in Chennai, describing the proposed infrastructure push as an important step for the sport in India. The actor, who has pursued motorsports alongside his film career for several years, issued a statement thanking the state government for turning greater attention towards sports and the development of young talent.

Vijay announced plans for both a Tamil Nadu Olympic City and a separate Motorsports City in Chennai in a statement in the state Assembly. The proposed Motorsports City is expected to feature facilities capable of hosting Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3 and Formula 4 races, along with infrastructure aimed at identifying and training young motorsport talent from the state.

For Ajith, the announcement has particular relevance given his own involvement in racing. The actor has competed in international motorsport events over the years and has increasingly balanced his acting commitments with his passion for racing. His recent competitive outings have included endurance racing, while his racing outfit, Ajith Kumar Racing, has also competed on the international circuit.

In his statement, Ajith acknowledged the government’s broader focus on encouraging sporting talent and improving infrastructure across disciplines.

“I thank the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and the Tamil Nadu State Government, for encouraging youngsters into sports, for identifying the talent within them, and for giving opportunities by way of these several the much needed attention by announcing new initiatives to develop infrastructure.”

Ajith’s Reaction Comes As Tamil Nadu Looks To Expand Sports Infrastructure

The proposed Motorsports City is part of a larger sports infrastructure plan announced by the Tamil Nadu government. Alongside the motorsports facility, the proposed Olympic City in Chennai is expected to include sports arenas, a high-performance training centre, sports science and sports medicine facilities, as well as accommodation for athletes and coaches.

The Motorsports City, meanwhile, is being positioned as both a competition venue and a training ecosystem. Apart from hosting major racing events, the project is intended to provide opportunities for young drivers and help develop motorsport talent within Tamil Nadu. The announcement comes at a time when there is renewed discussion about bringing Formula 1 back to India, with a national-level task force also examining the prospects of reviving the country’s presence on the international racing calendar. India last hosted a Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2013.

Ajith, who has spoken frequently about his interest in motorsports, sees the proposed facility as an opportunity that could extend beyond hosting races. His statement linked the government’s investment in infrastructure with the possibility of creating a stronger pathway for aspiring racers.

He added, “Having currently being involved in motorsports, I would like to rephrase a quote by astronaut Mr Neil Armstrong ‘One small step by the Tamil Nadu govt, one giant leap for motorsports in India!’ Wishing The Honourable Chief Minister Thiru C Joseph Vijay Avl the very best in all his endeavours. May all the new sports endeavours by the Tamil Nadu Government triumph.”

Ajith’s Racing Journey To Continue On Screen

The actor’s motorsport journey is also set to become the subject of Gladiators, an upcoming documentary that chronicles his involvement in racing. The project is produced by his wife, Shalini Ajithkumar, and is expected to give audiences a closer look at the actor’s life away from cinema and his commitment to motorsports.

Ajith has long maintained that racing is more than a side interest, continuing to participate in international endurance events even as he remains one of Tamil cinema’s leading actors. His involvement has also brought considerable attention to motorsports among his fan base.

The proposed Motorsports City could therefore represent something more significant for Ajith than a new sporting venue in his home state. If developed as planned, it could give Tamil Nadu’s established motorsport ecosystem a permanent international-scale platform while providing young racers with greater access to training and competition.
