Following the event, Ajith shared a video message thanking Vijay for taking time out of his UK visit to attend the race. He expressed his appreciation for the Chief Minister’s support for the Indian racers and suggested that Vijay’s presence could help give motorsport greater visibility in India.

Ajith’s relationship with motorsport has grown considerably in recent years. What began as a long-standing personal passion has evolved into a serious professional pursuit, with the actor returning to competitive racing and representing India on international circuits.

Ajith had earlier welcomed the announcement of a dedicated motorsport city, saying that such initiatives could encourage youngsters to take up the sport, help identify promising talent and create opportunities for them to develop into professional racers.

Vijay’s appearance at Silverstone comes during his first overseas visit as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. He attended the fifth round of the 2026 Michelin Le Mans Cup as a special guest and was scheduled to wave the green flag for the race.
Ajith competed in the LMP3 Pro/Am category for Ajith RedAnt by Virage alongside French driver Romain Vozniak. The weekend also featured an all-Indian LMP3 pairing, with former Formula 1 driver Narain Karthikeyan racing alongside Aditya Patel.
For Ajith, though, the significance of the weekend extended beyond his own performance. In his video message, he looked towards the possibility of India eventually hosting a round of the Le Mans Cup, linking that ambition to the Tamil Nadu government’s plans to develop motorsport infrastructure.
While thanking Vijay for giving sport and motorsport the attention it deserves, Ajith adapted Neil Armstrong’s famous words to describe the potential impact of the state’s initiatives: “one small step by the Tamil Nadu government, one giant leap for motorsports in India.”
