Actor Tim Curry, best known for his unforgettable performances in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, It and Clue, has passed away at the age of 80. He breathed his last at his Los Angeles home on Tuesday, August 25.
According to reports, the Los Angeles Police Department was called to Curry’s residence at around 11:23 pm PDT on Tuesday and conducted a death investigation. While an official cause of death has not yet been disclosed, law enforcement sources told TMZ that no foul play is suspected. Curry’s representatives and family are yet to issue a detailed statement regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
Curry had faced significant health challenges in the years following a major stroke in 2012, which left him partially paralysed and affected his mobility. Born in Grappenhall, Cheshire, England, in 1946, Curry began his career on the London stage before finding his breakthrough role as Dr Frank-N-Furter in Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show.
He originated the character on stage and later brought him to the screen in the 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a performance that would become one of the most iconic of his career.
Over the decades, Curry built a remarkably varied body of work across film, television, theatre and voice acting. He is best known for Annie, Clue, Ridley Scott’s Legend and for playing Pennywise in the 1990 miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s It. He also appeared in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and Muppet Treasure Island.
