Marta Kostyuk’s statement on struggling with depression resurfaces amid her 2026 Wimbledon semi-final tournament
Back in 2018, Marta Kostyuk got candid about her struggle with depression. Marta revealed that after her breakthrough at the 2018 Australian Open, she slipped into depression. The heavy pressure to constantly defend her ranking points and to maintain her early success left her at her lowest point. Marta was just 15 when she made this record. Recalling the time after the 2018 Australian Open, Marta once said:
“I clung to the Australian Open for so long in my life. It was then the highlight of my career. It was such a big deal, and I didn’t want to let it go. I wanted to go back to the feeling of hitting the ball at the Australian Open. I spent the whole of 2018 thinking about how I could keep these points. It was a very hard time in my life. I was at my lowest point. I had to go through depression but never talked about it. I tried to be very inconspicuous when I was having problems. That time was very challenging. There were many Things off the field. It just fell apart.”
