Veteran filmmaker Kuku Kohli passed away on Tuesday, August 25, after suffering a massive heart attack. He was 77. Kohli breathed his last at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, where he had been admitted a few days earlier after feeling unwell. According to reports, he had suffered a blockage and undergone a procedure to have a stent fitted a day before his death.
His brother-in-law, actor Balraj Irani, confirmed the news of his demise.
As per reports, Kohli’s funeral will be held on Thursday at the Oshiwara crematorium.
A director, writer and editor, Kohli is best remembered for giving Ajay Devgn his break as a leading man in the 1991 hit Phool Aur Kaante. He went on to direct films including Kohraam, starring Dharmendra, Suhaag, featuring Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and Karisma Kapoor, and Haqeeqat, which starred Ajay Devgn and Tabu. His last directorial venture was the 2004 film Woh Tera Naam Tha.
Kohli married actor Aruna Irani in 1990. The couple did not have children together. He is also survived by two daughters from his first marriage to Rota Kohli.
