Anil Kapoor Lands in Hyderabad for Jr NTRs Dragon Shoot

Actor Anil Kapoor has arrived in Hyderabad to begin shooting for the pan-India film Dragon. Directed by Prashanth Neel, the film stars RRR and War 2 actor Jr NTR in the lead. Touted as one of the biggest theatrical releases of 2027, the first instalment is scheduled to hit cinemas on June 11, 2027.

The veteran actor recently noticed a remarkable coincidence. August 5 marks Kajol’s birthday, and in an Instagram Story, Anil wished her while reminiscing about their time together on the sets of Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain (1999), which was shot at Ramoji Film City.

He recalled that Kajol had jokingly predicted that years later, even after getting married and having children, he would still be working at the same location. Her words proved prophetic, as Anil found himself back at Ramoji Film City on her birthday, this time shooting for Dragon. Calling it a “true blessing,” he expressed his hope of collaborating with Kajol again soon.

Dragon marks Anil Kapoor’s return to Telugu cinema after 46 years. He made his Telugu debut in Bapu’s 1980 film Vamsa Vruksham, which also marked his first leading role as an actor. During the promotions of Animal in Hyderabad in 2023, Anil fondly recalled that experience, crediting the film with teaching him discipline. He revealed that he used to wake up at 4 a.m. every day to prepare for the demanding shoot.

In Dragon, Anil Kapoor plays Raghuveer Rathod, the Chief of India’s Narcotics Bureau. Set against the backdrop of the opium trade in the 1960s, the film follows Jr NTR’s character, Luger, the ruthless assassin-in-chief of the Afghan Trading Company.

Rathod emerges as the principal force standing against Luger and his sprawling criminal empire. The battle between the Narcotics Bureau and the trading syndicate forms the central conflict of the film. Industry buzz suggests that Anil’s character will be a formidable authority figure whose relentless pursuit of justice drives one of the story’s biggest face-offs.
