Bollywood composer Amaal Mallik has announced a temporary break from Bollywood, revealing that he won’t create new film music until next year. The decision comes after he shared a picture from a hospital bed on social media. For now, recovering physically, mentally and emotionally takes precedence over his work commitments. Songs already recorded for smaller, lower-budget productions will continue to reach audiences. Mallik framed the pause as an opportunity to return to authentic, unfiltered musical expression.

A complete break for a year
In an unambiguous note, Mallik wrote, “No more film music till next year. Old unreleased film songs will arrive soon if the films even end up releasing, as they are smaller-budget movies with good intent, and such people don’t get screens easily, so don’t know the future of those projects… Please request you not to pester me any further. Will update as I get to know.”

Dwindling creative liberty
The composer of recent films such as Awarapan 2 had earlier alleged that influential figures behind the scenes had sidelined him from more than 60 projects over eight years. Alongside this, he has also expressed dissatisfaction with music labels, the shrinking creative liberty given to composers, and what he described as inequitable treatment meted out to some vocalists. “Get one thing straight – MY SONGS are my BABIES, and TRUST me when I say I’m a DANGEROUS DAD,” he recently wrote.
He is known for romantic ballads and emotionally driven tracks, often collaborating with singers such as Arijit Singh, Armaan Malik and Shreya Ghoshal.
For now, though, his fans have one key takeaway from his message: “I am all good and I will go all the way in, this time, to do what is best for me and only do what is important to my heart and for my health.”
